The Sacraments of the Church

In our church, all seven Holy Sacraments of the Orthodox Church are celebrated. Through these sacraments, the faithful are united with God, receive His grace, and are strengthened spiritually on the path to salvation.

Baptism

The sacrament through which a person becomes a member of the Church of Christ. We perform baptisms for both infants and adults after a предварительная meeting and conversation with the priest.

Chrismation

Chrismation follows immediately after Baptism and grants the newly illumined person the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Confession

The sacrament of repentance, in which a person confesses sins before God and receives forgiveness. Confession is heard before every Divine Liturgy or at other times as needed.

Holy Communion

The Sacrament of Holy Communion unites the faithful with Christ through receiving His Body and Blood. Communion is received during the Divine Liturgy after Confession and proper spiritual preparation, including the Prayer Rule before Communion.

If you have questions about preparing for Holy Communion, please contact the rector of the parish, Archpriest Victor Kramarenko, at 403-401-0801.

Holy Matrimony

The sacrament of marriage, in which the hearts and lives of two people are united before God. Weddings are celebrated with the blessing of the rector after a meeting with the couple.

Holy Unction (Anointing of the Sick)

The sacrament for the healing of spiritual and physical illnesses through prayer and anointing with blessed oil. It is celebrated during fasting seasons or upon request.

Ordination (Holy Orders)

The Sacrament of Ordination, also known as Holy Orders, is performed exclusively by a bishop. Only a bishop possesses the apostolic authority to ordain priests and deacons. This authority has been handed down from the Holy Apostles to their successors — the bishops of the Church.

In the Orthodox Church, ordination is one of the seven sacraments through which a person receives the grace-filled gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts grant the ability and blessing to celebrate the sacraments and perform liturgical ministry.

The bishop, as the bearer of the fullness of the priesthood, has the authority to celebrate all the sacraments of the Church, including the Sacrament of Ordination itself.
